Why I Love Miley Cyrus

People just don’t get me. They think I’m bonkers because of my love for Miley! To be honest I think my friends and family are still traumatised by TWERK-GATE! And how come we never heard Miss Beyonce and others being so cruelly judged for their twerking antics? What’s that all about?

I’m so not bonkers (I don’t think I am). I totally fell in love with singers and song writers because I just love music. It moves me all the time. I listen to music all day every day. Right now as I write, I’m on an easy listening vibe - that’s my thing when I’m writing. I’m listening to “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan.

I’ve even created my own relaxation and meditation music - I’ve always wanted to do that - and that’s what I fall asleep to at night.

So Why Should We All Love Miley Cyrus?

What’s my thing with Miss Miley? I actually became a fan during the Bangerz era…or Twerk-Gate as I love to call it. I just loved the music and how she sounded. Then my usual thing was to go and see the artist and photograph them. (That’s my hobby!). I sneak my camera into the London O2 Arena on my VIP ticket (because that’s the closest I can get - practically on the stage), and away I go!

Miley Cyrus by Dee Airey

A discreet shot of Miley by yours truly. I don’t know what I’d do if my camera was ever confiscated at the O2! But seriously, after falling in love with Miley and her vibe, I started to check out her older stuff and listen to the real country singer, the southern belle and I came across “The Climb”. This is when I really listened. The Climb is so inspiring and thought provoking.

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming
But, there's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it

Then there’s that chorus that just grabs my attention every single time

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Boom! Right there! It’s the Climb.

How to get Inspired as a Photographer

There are so many other ways to be inspired, other than by more experienced photographers. Observing, seeing and listening from outside of photography is how it often happens.

These mega lyrics opened my eyes and ears to a lot of things. These days people are so consumed by keeping their eyes on the prize, and they want to get it now! So much so, that they’re not prepared to do the work and ride the challenging waves of the journey. The journey (or the climb) is where the magic happens, it’s where we learn and it’s where we grow. Why on earth would you want to miss that? Because of this instant gratification attitude, it’s why so many people give up quickly.

Almost every day we see coaches and gurus promising enormous incomes in just 30 days, paradise lifestyles in 60 days and so on. My heart goes out to folk who go running after that. Yes, believe in yourself. At the same time it’s a big fat ‘no’ to believing you can just have without doing. It simply doesn’t work that way. It’s the climb!

Ok, so Miley didn’t pen this insightful tune herself, but she’s written so many other deep and meaningful, thought provoking lyrics. And to top it off, she gets totally terrified in her job. Just like me.

That’s why I love Miley Cyrus. I’m inspired by those wise old lyrics that come belting out from that very young mouth.

It’s part of the reason I love to coach. I love to climb with people and witness their incredible transformation. I love to celebrate their wins and be there as support when they fall and scrape their knees.

What about you? Where have you found inspiration off-the-job? Seriously. I’m interested to know. Be in touch at denise@deeaireycoaching.com

Until next time.

Love always. Dee xx
